The last days on Koh Samui

September 3-5: After a week in our small and not so cozy house, we are now moving on to our next accommodation, that Andreas calls the “luxury hotel”. The hotel has been given that name because it was a little bit more expensive than the other accommodation we have had and it has a pool 😂 The so-called luxury hotel is about a 40-minute walk from our current accommodation, so we decide to walk there after we have checked out and received our deposit back, etc. The walk gets hot but still goes quickly and we find the right place straight away.

When we arrive, we are a few hours too early to check in. We are met by Joe, who works in the restaurant and who we later understand seems to be responsible for most of the things at the hotel. He says that the room is being cleaned and that we can access it soon. We can leave our bags in the restaurant and also have access to the pool while we wait, if we want. We choose instead to take a walk in the area to familiarize ourselves a bit. We make our way down to the sea, about 10 minutes away. The beach is small but beautiful. We stroll around the area a bit and realize that there is not much to see or do, which we actually already knew when we booked. We have booked this accommodation just to enjoy the larger rooms and of course the pool, not for the surroundings.

When we get back, our hotel room is ready. The accommodation has three bedrooms and a small living room. There is also a kitchen but that is not allowed to be used (we understand why when we see the broken stove). A fun thing about the hotel is that they have put funny eyes on all the pictures and paintings where there are eyes and on their towels. There is AC in all bedrooms, which is longed for after several nights of sweating and swearing in our Tiny house. When we have our packing in order and everyone has their place to sleep, we quickly change into swimwear and jump in the pool. We stay there for a couple of hours and just enjoy the cool water and various competitions in handstands and swimming underwater.

In the evening we go out to find a local restaurant for some dinner. There is a restaurant on the accommodation but it does not serve Thai food, only pizza and sandwiches. We soon discover that of the few restaurants in the area, only one is open (if you ignore another that is open but out of rice!). We have discovered that it is difficult to know what time of day it is best to go out and eat. In some places we have been to, the restaurants do not open until the afternoon and it is difficult to find a place for lunch. Here, instead, it is open at lunch but it is more difficult to find a place for dinner. Since we do not have much to choose from, it becomes the only restaurant open and the food there is quite okay, both in terms of taste and price.

We have only booked two nights at the “luxury hotel” and are enjoying ourselves to the fullest during the short time. We swim (both in the pool and in the jacuzzi), we eat delicious pizzas that Joe fixes in the restaurant, we play pool, we take the opportunity to wash all our clothes and the rest of the time we just chill. Of course we’ll have time for some school and blogging too 😊 We all feel that this was much needed after the disappointment of our last accommodation. And maybe even for our upcoming adventure, a week in the jungle!
